This is the one where I get a job interview.

Published by User ImageMike Lawson under work

I got a job interview with an organization in Phoenix.  If I get this gig, I’ll be moving to AZ mid-November.

I haven’t told many people about the interview for a few reasons:

  1. I don’t want to be embarassed if I have to explain that I didn’t get the job.
  2. I don’t want anyone here to talk me out of it.

I haven’t even told my mom yet (who lives in Arizona) or my roommate.

Strangely, I did mention it to my boss today.  I just walked in and said “hey, I have a job interview on November 5th in Phoenix.  I just want to be honest and let you know what’s up.”  She thanked me for my honesty and told me that she will pray that I totally bomb the interview because she wants to keep me around.  :)

This is the one where the black tie didn’t matter.

I ended up going with a sweater that wasn’t the Banana Republic one I had thought about wearing. At first I was a little uncomfortable in my non-tuxedo, but I saw plenty of people that weren’t wearing suits.

There was one guy, I swear to god, that was wearing a tuxedo with a top hat and a cane. Maybe he had a monocle too, or maybe that’s just a detail that I added in the movie in my mind.

This is the one where I don’t have a black tie.

I got invited to go to this swanky fund raising dinner tonight.  It is a “black tie optional” event.  Tickets are $150 a plate; and I’m lucky that I have a wealthy friend that bought an entire table and is just inviting us poor, young, college students to sit with her.

Last year I went to this event too.  I was invited by a labor union to sit at their table.

It’s a good time.  The only problem is the “black tie” nonsense.  I don’t own a suit.  I don’t even have a black tie.  I’m going to wear some slacks (which are too big for me.  I haven’t been able to buy new dress clothes since I lost the weight), and a dress shirt and tie, and I’m going to wear a Bannana Republic sweater over it.

I know that I’m going to feel a little out of place at first, but after people start boozing up that should subside.

This is the one that is a follow up to the stalking post.

Published by User ImageMike Lawson under dating

I wrote here about getting “stalked” by a dude I met at a concert a few weeks ago.  I talked to the guy on the telephone a couple of days ago.

During our telephone conversations I found out a couple of things, and it looks like it wasn’t a love connection.  Sorry Chuck.

The first thing that disturbed me was that he told me that he spends a lot of time hanging out at a nude beach in San Diego which is known for homos cruising.  Gross.

The second thing was that he lives in LA and was bitchy when I told him that I live in OC.  Gross.

The third thing is that he is 38.  This one isn’t exactly a deal breaker, but with the other two turn-offs, I don’t have any intentions of calling him.

This is the one where my family visits.

My sister and nephew drove in from Arizona this weekend. Arizona schools are strange, and give kids what is called “fall break.” It is like spring break, in that it is a small break given to students in a particular season. And like spring break it also coincides with a holiday. Spring break is usually before or after Easter. Fall break is on Columbus Day.

Not too many people celebrate Columbus Day anymore.

So when sister and nephew were in California for the weekend we went and visited some family that we haven’t seen in a long time. They live in Riverside and Hemet. The picture above is of (from L to R) my aunt (mom’s sister), my cousin, me, my nephew.

We also visited my great-aunt (mom’s mom’s sister). I haven’t been to her house in about 5 years, and it was pretty apparent that she hasn’t moved anything in about that long. The dust around the place was so thick. I had to step outside for a bit because I had trouble breathing.
