2009 March | What Some Would Call Lies

This is the one where I can see.

lenses

I got rid of the glasses this past weekend, and finally got contact lenses.

Men don’t make passes at boys that wear glasses.

Isn’t that the old Dorothy Parker quotation??  I could have part of that wrong…who knows.

Anyway, I’ve received strange feedback since I lost the specs.  Most of it is positive.  I’ve gotten a lot of people saying “you look a lot younger.”  I’ve also had a couple of people tell me that I look handsome without them.

And as always, the kids I work with have been brutally honest.  The majority have complimented me, while a few kids told me how dreadful I look.

The same days that I got the lenses I ran to buy sunglasses.  It’s such a good feeling to finally be able to wear non-perscription sunglasses.

This is the one where I’m the featured blogger.

doc_ftblogGuess who the featured blogger of the week is over at The Diabetes OC website?  If you guessed Wilford Brimley, you’d be close…but not correct.

The featured blogger this week is me!

I put together a few posts.  My quick introduction with a anecdotal story about me in the 3rd grade is up right now.  I’ll also be writing about when I was diagnosed with diabetes, and living with an expensive chronic illness and being uninsured.

The “OC” in The Diabetes OC doesn’t stand for “Orange County” like I have been programmed to believe.  It actually stands for “Online Community” and the site was created by people that are living with diabetes and want to share their life with the world.

The website is currently ran by Gina Capone.

This is the one where Dan is in California.

Dan’s in California for the day.  And he just emailed me this photo.  Any guesses on where he’s at?

Happy Birthday Daniel!!

This is the one where it’s my birthday.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I hate my birthday.  Birthday attention annoys the heck out of me.  A bunch of praise for doing nothing.  Hate it.

I woke up this morning and Daniel gave me a nice “happy birthday,” without over doing it.  And I received about 50 messages on FaceBook.  But I’ve yet to see how things are going to turn out at work.

We have a “Meet The Staff” board that has everyone’s birth date listed.  So I’m sure that a few of the more clever children will figure out that today’s my mass-attention-for-nothing day.

Last year at this time I was working from home and wrote “This is the one where there is no escaping it.”

A lot happens in a year, huh?

Also, you should all go to Daniel’s blog or Daniel’s Twitter and comment on how disgusted you are that he’s dating an older man now (even though his birthday is in 3 days and we’ll be the same age again).

This is the one that took an hour to write.

As I mentioned before, I can now blog from my phone. I’m posting this from my cell, and I thought maybe id just try posting a regular evening from 9pm to 10pm. Here’s what I’ve got:

* Watching ’30 Rock’ this show is seriously one of the best shows on tv right now.

* Puppy is sleeping on Dan’s lap (see photo)

* I’ve started drinking more and more. That’s no good. But tonight I’m working on my second beer.

* Tonight I signed up for Google Latitude. I despise the idea, but am curious to see if I might benifit.

* Liz Lemon is at jury duty.

* Tracey Jordan approves this message.

* Dan is multi-tasking: texting, cradling the pup and watching the tv.

* On tv: here comes the fun cooker.

* Is it bad that its past 9pm and I feel hungry?!

* 30 rock is done…we are now watching Make Me a Supermodel on Bravo (see picture).

* Now I don’t know if multiple pictures show up. Can you see only one, or many??

* Some of the models on here are HAWT…and then they start talking and you think, “nevermind.”

* What would I be doing tonight if I never moved to Arizona?

* Of course they picked the black model to pose as chocolate.

* Male model just said, “dealing with the homosexuals in the house…” UGH.

* Boyfriend just asked, “what’s a go-see?” Duh…has he never seen AMericas Next Top Model?!?

* Now the bf is talking about how he wipped the dog’s privates today with a wet cloth.

* Its only been 45 minutes, but this post is getting too long. I’m ending it here.

This is the one where I say, “Bye, Bye Blackberry.”

blackberry

I had Blackberry issues last week.  I accidentally let my battery die, and then when I tried to recharge, the battery wouldn’t hold a charge.  After a few minutes in the Sprint store, I was given a free batter and my phone started without issue – but I found out when I got home that the problem wasn’t the battery.

When I plugged the phone in, I noticed that it wasn’t charging. Ugh.

androidSo I ditched the Blackberry and got a new G1 Android – The Google Phone.

It’s only been a few days, but I’m really impressed with this phone.  I’m currently using an application for Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.

I’ve also installed an app called WpToGo, which allows me to easily post to this blog (I haven’t used it yet).

And one thing that I’m really happy to have back is a cell camera.  My BlackBerry was the 8830, and didn’t have a built in camera.  So once again I can snap photos easily and Twitter or blog them.

Is there anyone that reads my blog that uses a G1?  If so, what applications do you use that you can not live without?

This is the one with my 12 of 12 for March.

header

This is my one year anniversary doing 12 of 12. I’ve missed only one month (January 09 just snuck up on me).

On the 12th day of each month a bunch of bloggers take 12 photos of their day. Here are mine for December.

If you’d like to see the collection of everyone’s photos, go to Chad’s page.

New hair.

You can still see her spay scars.

3

We’ve all got our vices.  Mine is the Rockstar.  Dan’s is on the right.

4

Have you ever found anything in the Lost & Found and been tempted to take it for yourself?

5

Dodge Ball!

I’m doing a training this weekend about these “BE” cards and this is part of my sample presentation.

6

At my club, our members recieve their “Net Smartz” through a series of dumb cartoons.

Daniel cooked dinner in the slow cooker.  It was a very tasty roast.

8

I got a new phone!  It’s a very kick-ass G1.

9

I’m getting ready for a Powerpoint Presentation I’m giving to kiddies on Saturday, and I’m trying to be as funny and entertaining as possible.  Instead of writing, “1. 2. 3.” I’m using this photo.

10

Working. At night. On my own time.

One for me.  One for him.

This is the one where I decide to have a secular sabbath.

I’ve been thinking about this idea for almost a year now, and I’m finally thinking about making it happen.  Have you heard of people taking one night each week to get off the grid – that is, to shut off their televisions, computers, cellphones.  And to just live a night reading a book or talking or exercising.

The buzz word that’s floating around, and will probably bring in a few googlers to this page, is “Secular Sabbath.”  This New York Times article described this technology break as ” a day a week where I would be free of screens, bells and beeps. An old-fashioned day not only of rest but of relief.”

And as Ariel did on her blog, I’m going to give this a try:

One night a week for a year, I am going to completely unplug from anything with a screen.

And here’s a quick video about Ariel:

I’m not certain Daniel’s going to like this very much, but I’m going to start turning off everything with a screen on Tuesday nights.  Once I leave work, the phone is off.  The TV.  The computer.

Tonight I’ll use that time to:

  • Make a delicious lunch for tomorrow.
  • Do laundry
  • Go for a walk
  • Read in bed until I fall asleep

If you don’t hear from me until tomorrow, you’ll know why.

This is the one with a face picture of Olive.

march9

I was talking with my  friend Landileigh last night and I said how difficult it was to get a face picture of my puppy.  Olive is just really camera shy, and doesn’t like the noises a camera makes (she’s a scaredy cat/puppy).

About an hour after I was talking with Landi, Olive fell asleep on Daniel’s lap and let me take some really cute photos like the one above.
