Mike Lawson's Storytelling Blog - Part 5

This is the one where I need your help!

Blog Buddies!!  I need help.  I’m trying to pick a new pair of glasses.  The very cool website Warby Parker sent me five pairs of glasses to try on and get some advice from y’all before making a decision.  So help me out guys.  Which pair of glasses should I go with?

Click and vote on the pair you think I should get and feel free to leave me some feedback in the comments of this post.

This is the one about compliments, booze and unemployment checks

If you’re a normal READER, why don’t you try LISTENING to the audio version of What Some Would Call Lies?  My weekly podcast story is usually about ten minutes.  Episode 7: Compliments, Booze and Unemployment Checks is about 9 minutes.  Check it out.

Some friendships are meant to last forever…and others are meant to last for twenty minutes in the hallway of some lady’s house in Los Angeles while you eavesdrop on two strangers having sex in the next room.

And don’t forget to go write an iTunes review to be entered in the What Some Would Call Lies t-shirt giveaway!

This is the one with a mantra for the new year.

It’s Monday! So here is my new mantra on my mirror for the week.  Each week I write a little inspirational message on a post-it and put it on my bathroom mirror.  Throughout the week I try to focus on this message to get me through the week.

What’s your mantra for the week?

Here is my mantra for this week:

If you like the shirt I’m wearing, you could win one.  Checkout the What Some Would Call Lies t-shirt giveaway!

This is the one with what I love this week.

This week I’m totally in love with my new Kindle Fire.  Love.

I’ve toyed with the idea of switching to electronic books for years, and I’m glad I went for it.

One of my main concerns was that I would read LESS but buy MORE.  But I haven’t had to buy any books yet.  I borrowed Chelsea Handler’s My Horizontal Life and I have used the free Huffington Post app to get some news reading in too.

I’m not really competitive…but I do like to challenge myself.  And as you read, you can watch the “percentage read” increase.  Last night I started the Chelsea Handler book and started dozing off around 30%…but I kept challenging myself to stay awake until 50%.

Nerdy.

I’ve only had the thing for a week, so I’m still learning about some of the apps and stuff.  If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Friday December 30th, 2011: I <3 The Kindle Fire.

Isn’t that a freaking hot shirt??  My friends at ooshirts.com have made it possible for me to design and give away a really rad shirt to someone that listens to the What Some Would Call Lies podcast.

Want it?

All you have to do is write a review of the podcast in iTunes.  I don’t care what it says.  Just write from your little t-shirt-wanting heart.  It’s easier than taking candy from a slightly stupid baby… OPEN iTUNES AND WRITE A REVIEW RIGHT NOW!  Any iTunes reviews submitted before January 30th, 2011 will be eligible for the shirt.  I’ll announce the winner on the January 31st episode.

If you’re looking for a custom-printed shirt, ooshirts.com is a pretty easy-to-use company with reasonable prices (and I’m not just saying that because they gave me giveaways).  Their website is super-easy to navigate and their customer service was superb.

This is the one with the top sandwiches of 2011.

At about this time every year we start to see the internet flood with meaningless top ten lists. At one point these lists might have actually served purpose, but now I believe it is used as cheap filler content to be used while the content-makers are off enjoying their holiday season.

Enjoy!

Top 10 Sandwiches

  1. Peanut Butter & Jelly
  2. Turkey and Cheese
  3. Tuna Salad
  4. Grilled Cheese
  5. BLT
  6. French Dip
  7. The Club
  8. Philly Cheese Steak
  9. Bologna and Cheese
  10. Cuban

This is the one with instructions.

If you have diabetes, I hope this video is a valuable tool to show your loved ones.  If you love someone with diabetes, I hope this video helps you out this holiday season.  Enjoy!

This is the one about a rainy day schedule.

Here is episode FIVE of the audio version of What Some Would Call Lies.  This week I tell a story titled “Rainy Day Schedule.”

The rain falling from the sky washed away my true nature and set free some blood-thirsty animal…today I’ll tell you a story of how a little rain triggered a WAR.

It’s short (less than 8 minutes) and FREE!  Listen now:

This is the one about thinking and becoming.
