This is the one with my 12 of 12.
On the 12th day of each month a bunch of bloggers take 12 photos of their day. Here are mine for May, 2009.
If you’d like to see the collection of everyone’s photos, go to Chad’s page.
Mr. D is in Flagstaff for the week, and he sent me a text to remind me to take photos for the day.

My little lunch box that I put my insulin in. How do you guys keep your insulin cool?
I woke up high…again. I think I need to up my basal intake.
Checking my Twitter. Unhealthy obsession.
“Please walk me,” she begs.
Why am I always wearing this shirt on the 12th?
New diabetic supplies make it feel like Christmas.
Bathroom reading material…you should be glad I took a picture of the magazine, and not anything else.
I voted for 2 of these guys. Guess which.
More needles.

Going for another walk.
Ouch. Testing blood before bed.

My boyfriend and I are totally in Kris Allen’s court too. A friend of mine described Adam as the “gay banshee” which I think sums him up pretty well. What do you mean woke up high?

I would be the worst diabetic ever. Those are just too many steps … Also, I have a feeling my insulin would perennially be behind the pickle jar. Somehow, everything is *always* behind the pickle jar in the fridge. Dunno what my partner’s doing with all those pickles anyway…
And, as always … Olive is adorable.
Nice 12

Derek: woke up with high blood sugars. There’s this thing that people call the “dawn phenomenon.” Basically there’s a scientific reason that some people are “morning people.” Their blood sugars spike over night…to get you ready to start your morning. I’m one of those people.
Chris: I know what you’re saying. There are a lot of steps, and you can never take a break…or you could end up in the hospital. But if you were to get diagnosed (and I really hope you don’t), you’d make the necessary adjustments because it just feels so good to be healthy and have good numbers.

I laughed out loud at the last picture – testing your blood sugar. Awesome!

I wanted to do this months 12, but forgot to bring my camera with me to work and worked all day. I need text reminders too.

So many of us take for granted what our bodies do for us naturally. Thanks for the reminder.
Perhaps you’re wearing that shirt because it’s true.
Thanks for sharing your day with us. Be well.

Olive is such a cutie!
I’m in awe of anyone who can be so organised with insulin and glucose testing and all that. My Mum is apprently now adult-onset diabetic, though half the people she talks to at the doctors look at her stats and wonder if that’s true (she is really borderline). But she’s taken it on board and worked hard to eat healthily and exercise more. She’s lost quite a bit of weight and is really feeling good. Apparently it can be reversible, especially if you’re overweight (and she was). The added weight puts strain on the liver, which affects its ability to process the sugar or something. So losing weight eases the liver’s work and can mean no more diabetes.
So hopefully she’ll never be at the injection stage, but it’s still been an overhaul of eating and exercise habits, educating herself about the sugar contents of food (and my Dad too). Seeing her, and your managing of your insulin, is a reminder that with the proper attitude, people can change their habits and health.
Sorry I’m so behind on commenting – been a very busy time with lots of travel! Even my 12 of 12 was only up on the 15th!
