This is the one where I’m a stupid kid and she’s a tolerant old lady.
I was a foolish child.
When I was about five years old, we lived in an crappy apartment in Anaheim, California. I was a loquacious child, so I really thrived in the apartment atmosphere - tons of people around to listen to my blabbing.
There was an elderly woman named Shirley that lived a few doors down from us, and I would frequently stop by to talk with her. Shirley was blind, and I would occasionally read to her from story books or my school work.
Shirley was so patient and nice to me. She would just sit and listen to my stories.
Recently I asked my mom if she remembered Shirley and how I would hang out and read with her.
“Yeah, I remember Shirley,” she said laughing.
“What’s so funny?” I asked.
“You would go over there and read her the stories from the little coloring books you got at church.”
She had to pause to catch her breath. My mom really found this funny.
“So?”
“You’d be telling her about how Jesus died for our sins,” she said. Again, pausing to laugh.
“So?”
“Michael, Shirley was Jewish.”
When we were reminiscing, I also remember dancing for Shirley. I was a pretty dumb kid; dancing and reading stories about Jesus to a blind Jewish woman.

@cheapblueguitar you leaving?? Or just singing?

I bet she liked you anyways. You were a kid.
