This is the one with useful things to do with Vaseline.

Gregory from Apartment Therapy L.A. wrote this post yesterday about five household uses for Vaseline.  Greg’s list left out a couple of useful things that I think you can do with Vaseline (nothing dirty, you pervs).  Here are my additions:

  1. Leather - Rub some Vaseline on leather to keep it from cracking and it helps waterproof it.
  2. Shoe Shine - A small coating of Vaseline will help keep your shoes shiny.  Rub it on with a cloth and remove the excess with a separate dry cloth.
  3. Sticky Lids - This works especially well on super-glue lids.  Before you close the tube just put a bit of Vaseline in there.  It will prevent the lid from getting stuck.
  4. Shower Curtain Lubricant - Keep your shower curtain sliding easily by adding a coat to the curtain rod.
  5. Lubricate Your Rubicks Cube - If you got a sticky cube you can use Vaseline to lubricate the innards.  Snap it apart and apply…but don’t cheat!
  6. Shine Your Bald Head - If you’re a baldy, give your head a shine by rubbing a little Vaseline into your scalp.

And I feel obligated to mention that Vaseline should not be used for a lubricant when having sex with a condom.  Yeah, I had to go there.  Too many people are unaware of this really important warning.  The petroleum in Vaseline will break down the structure of the latex and it makes your condom ineffective.

  1. Nice list… and I really like the endnote for the morons. I have never thought to shine a shoe with vaseline.

  2. Cool additions! I really wanted to include the safe sex mention on my AT list, but you know some more conservative readers would have gotten into a hissy fit about it. I keep it PG on ATLA and keep the NC-17 stuff for my own blog :D
