This is the one about Twitter icons.

headMy Twitter icon is a picture of my face.  It’s actually a work photograph.  We have a “Get To Know The Staff” bulletin board, where there is a photo of each member of the staff and I Photoshopped all of them so they were black & white, and it looks like we are all wearing the same color blue shirt.

Do you use a real photograph of yourself for Twitter?  Or do you have a cartooned version?  Or is it some random icon?

Until very recently, my Twitter icon has been a drawing of myself that I made.  And then I started realizing that an actual photo might help people connect with me and what I’m tweeting.  There is also the chance that there are some acquaintances out there that could recognize me in a real photo, as opposed to a drawing or generic icon.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Twitter lately, and I’ve been trying my best to be honest: honest about my diabetes, honest about feelings and honest about replies and support to other Twits.  So why not honest in my photo too?

danoliveLast night my boyfriend updated his Twitter icon.  Awhile back his icon was a photograph of his cute face taken at a bad angle…you could see right up his nose, and he was looking down so it looked like he had 2 chins (even though he is very skinny).  Just straight up unflattering.

And Dan is a big Steeler’s fan, so when they made it into the NFL Playoffs he changed his Twitter icon to the Steeler’s logo.  And that stayed there for about two months or so (maybe more).  And it wasn’t until last night that he felt that he could change the picture.

He took this adorable picture with Olive.  And that’s his icon right now.  Cute right?

Or does she look a little freaked out?

She’s a Pug/Beagle (Puggle) and like most pugs she has a lot of skin up in the neck and face.  It’s cute how it’s all bunched up.

Here are some icons of other Twits that I really like:

christine_flower_2_bigger @starryskye81 Nice black & white with color (like mine)

smallpic_bigger @janaekrell A highschool friend.  Everytime I see her face I smile.

niyame_bigger @diabeticizme Doesn’t that photo say so much? She’s loving, she’s a mom, she’s happy & positive. Why wouldn’t you follow her?!

mariachihs_bigger @ninjabetic Do I need to explain?

I’ve changed my icon a few times now. I used to have a cartoon of myself and then I used my favicon (my ‘logo’), and then around Christmas I took a photo of myself that I quite liked so I squared it up and shrunk it. Its been such a hit, I get into trouble when I try and change it to anything else!

It’s funny you posted this because I’ve been thinking about my twitter icon lately. I kind of like the picture of me (and like that if you look REAL closely, you can see my roommate in the back) but I always wonder whether other people like it too. Maybe I should just ask someone :P
I like your icon, but your BF clearly wins the best Twitter icon contest.

    ¡Ole!

I like to make people laugh, even if it’s just my icon. The sombero jorge shot works well for me for now.

I am honored it made your blog! Very cool.

Amazingly enough, the Twitter avatar picture only took 3 tries! I finally had to put my hand next to her face so that she would stop looking away just as the picture was about to be taken. A little more light would have been nice, but it works. Hopefully people (not just Mike) will stop hounding me about my Twitter avatar.

My twitter icon is a picture of me that my son took last summer. I really like the picture, the colours and the relaxed attitude, plus it reminds me of what we were doing that weekend :)

I have lately -this las year and a half- become used to using one same icon/avatar for my most usual websites. It makes it easier for my friends to recognize me, instead of guessing if this is also me or not.

One mre thing: I try not to change icons too often. I know the pain it is when you’ve been offline a few days and everyone has changed their icons for stripes, very similar cartoons, dominoes…
